MIS 3800 is one of the most informational and engaging classes I have taken at OHIO. Key concepts include understanding different types of cyber-attacks, such as phishing and malware, as well as basic security principles like authentication and encryption. After taking the class, I began my summer Technology Consulting internship in digital forensics, eDiscovery, and information governance (IG). The course gave me a solid understanding of the basics of cybersecurity, including how to recognize potential threats and the importance of protecting sensitive information. With this foundational knowledge, I was able to make connections from concepts I learned in class to my internship project work.
Additionally, the group projects and real-world case study examples from the class prepared me for the practical challenges I faced during my internship and will continue to face throughout my career. I learned about the importance of following proper procedures when handling digital evidence, which is essential in both eDiscovery and digital forensics. This training not only boosted my confidence, but also made it easier for me to adapt to the specific tasks and tools I encountered during my internship, allowing me to contribute effectively from day one. I would highly recommend taking MIS 3800 because of how well it relates to careers in tech and in general.
